W3C Web Standards (for those that are interested in a little “tech stuff”)

I am a huge lover of aesthetically pleasing design, but I am also a strong proponent for adhering to up-to-date, standards compliant coding that goes on behind the scenes.

What are some of the reasons W3C compliance and standards are IMPORTANT?

• By using web standards properly I ensure that I have done my part in making your site appear and function as it should with the largest possible number of browsers and browsing devices.
• Web standards will insure equal access to your website for ALL your visitors, regardless of ability. This demonstrates that you truly care about your clients!
• Well-structured markup separates structure and content (X/HTML) from presentation (CSS) and is much more compact than table-and-spacer-image-based tag soup.
• Documents will be smaller and faster for visitors to download.
• Well-written content delivered through clean, well-structured, and semantic markup is tasty food for search engine spiders (see #6) and will help your rankings.

Following W3C compliance and standards, including not using tables for layout, are what make a website more accessible for special needs visitors, handheld devices, different web browsers, etc.—and it assures your site will continue to perform as it should, and display as it should, in all major browsers that adhere to web standards.
